As I prepare to lay your magnificent body to rest,
Releasing your spirit back to its eternal home.
My heart soars with thankfulness
For the times we shared together.
You have taught me so much about life and living,
So much about courage and faith.
Even during the darkest of times.
That huge spark of life
That lit up your deep, dark eyes
Brought me sunshine and energy
Like the first warm day of Spring.
It was on walks with you
That so much of my world expanded.
As you investigated the surrounding countryside.
I touched life, peace and gentleness.
You always came back to check on me
You knew my inner most thoughts.
What a patient and incredible athlete you were.
Waiting for me to understand your needs
And to believe in myself.
Through the morning dew and the setting Sun
We learned how to track what we needed.
You witnessed my stumbling and my transitions
Never loosing faith in me.
Nicholas you were and are Grace in my life.
I am honored to have been your friend and caretaker.
It is sad for me to cut the umbilical cord that attached us,
But I know that you have others to teach and help.
My love for you is eternal.
I am a better person for having known you.
Safe travels dear friend
Your song forever radiates in my heart.
Hetch etu welo (It is so).
